Metal Architecture Design Award
Seizing the opportunity to turn an ordinary building into an extraordinary
piece of architecture, Brown Healy Stone & Sauer Ltd. reworked the exterior
of Bettendorf Public Library as part of an expansion project completed
in 1997. The keys to the firm's design incorporated of both ribbed and
smooth-faced metal wall panel systems, and curved metal roofing.
Corrugated panels, manufactured by Corrugated Metals, Inc. of
Chicago, IL were chosen to wrap both the new and existing part of the
facility, thus eliminating any indication that portions of the building's
construction had occurred at different periods of time. Through the
use of colorful trim and careful detailing, the design team was able
to elevate the finished appearance of what is generally considered to
be a low-end type of wall system.
The corrugated profile selected for the project was Corrugated Metals'
Box Beam. Panels of that profile were supplied
in two colors: Parchment and Surrey Beige.
