CMI Looks to Expansion Through New Products
Corrugated Metals, Inc. is an independent manufacturer of industrial
and commercial roofing and siding products which are marketed throughout
the United States and overseas.
The company's founding dates back more than 100 years to 1887 as the
New York Corrugating Company. During the first 80 years, the company
was a sheet metal shop with a marketing area of Greater New York City.
At that time, the company consisted of plain galvanized corrugated sheeting
produced on a drum corrugator and press brake.
In 1964, Ed Carlton was asked to temporarily manage the business because
of family illness. Temporary became permanent and by 1972 the company
had a new name, an expanded market, and a new piece of equipment
a 28-stand, state-of-the-art rollformer capable of producing profiles
with 4' coverage in all types of metals and with special finishes.
By 1975, CMI opened a Chicago, Illinois, plant to better service an
ever-expanding market. Several rollformers, as well as other equipment,
were added in the 1980's to offer a complete product line with a wide
range of profiles. In 1990, CMI consolidated its entire operation to
the Chicago location.
Together with his sons Tom Carlton, Vice President Marketing and Sales,
and Ken Carlton, Vice-President of Finance, Ed Carlton is enthusiastically
looking to the future with new products for the metal construction market
and to explore acquisitions, as well as continuously to furnish CMI's
loyal friends with a quality product and reliable service.
