Notes - Steel
  • Architectural Wall Panels made from ferrous and non-ferrous coiled sheet may exhibit waviness known as "oil canning." This is a lack of flatness often due to coil winding at the mill. There is no practical way to judge the flatness of the material, nor is it cause for rejection.

  • Stiffening beads and stucco embossing are recommended in all relatively flat sections in all widths and gauges. Beads and embossing are of great importance in the lighter gauges, since lack of flatness tends to be highlighted to the greatest degree. They may not alleviate oil canning, but they may minimize the condition to the point of acceptability.

  • Use of our architectural panels as a field-assembled wall system will not provide flatness of a foam panel wall system.

  • CMI will not be responsible for any rejection due to oil canning.

Notes - Steel
  1. Roof loads are for positive loads only and are in addition to weight of panel.

  2. Siding loads are for positive or negative loading.

  3. Maximum allowable stress for Grade A (F) = 20,000 PSI for walls where wind is only load.

  4. Loads and spans for carbon steel are based on AISI Cold Formed Steel Design Manual.

Notes - aluminum

  1. Roof loads are for positive loads only and are in addition to weight of panel.

  2. Siding loads are for positive or negative loading.

  3. Maximum allowable stress (FC) = 15,000 PSI for roof and side wall. Stresses have been increased 1/3 for wind loading.

  4. Loads and spans are based on Aluminum Formed Sheet Building Sheathing Design Guide.
